Call for Awards

KS Yang Travel Award​

Application due date: 4th April 2025 (11.59 am Malaysian time GMT+8)

 

Professor Kuo-shu Yang is the founder of indigenous Chinese psychology. He has worked his entire career promoting the development of psychology indigenous to Asia, and set up this fund through generous contributions from individuals in Taiwan.

​

In recognition of the huge range of conditions facing social psychologists across different countries in Asia, Professor Yang established an endowment to enable young scholars in economically developing countries to attend the AASP conference.

​

Hence, the KS Yang Travel Award is administered by AASP Conference Committee to provide financial assistance for deserving young scholars from developing countries to attend the conference.

​

Who can apply? 

Early career researchers from any developing nation (World Bank low or mid-income economy) who obtained their Ph.D. within 10 years from the date of application submission are eligible.

​

What is covered? 

Two awards will be given in the amount of up to USD$750 reimbursement for travel and accommodation costs for attending AASP 2025, and the conference registration fee will be waived.

How to apply?

In addition to submitting and receiving an acceptance for an abstract to the conference, KS Yang award applicants should also submit the following information in the form:

  1. Name

  2. Email address

  3. Position (e.g. student, assistant professor)

  4. Academic Affiliation

  5. Country

  6. Please confirm that you received your most recent Ph.D. within 10 years of today’s date. (Yes / No)

  7. In which month and year did you obtain your PhD?

  8. Submission ID of the poster, paper, or symposium that you will be presenting at the conference

  9. Upload 1 file* (PDF) that contains the following:

    • Name, Position, Affiliation, and Country

    • 200-word statement briefly stating why you are eligible for the KS Yang Travel Award and why it would be important to help you attend the conference (e.g. any other funding available to you, cost of attendance, the importance of attending in person, etc.)

    • a CV detailing your research and teaching activities;

    • a full copy of the paper you intend to present (length: 2000-6000 words); and

    • a recommendation letter from a more senior colleague.

​Review Procedure

The conference organizing committee’s Awards Sub-committee will review applications and inform applicants of the outcome by April 15, 2025.

 

Mutually Exclusive Awards

Please note that if a recipient of the KS Yang Award also receives any other AASP award or travel support, they will not be eligible for the KS Yang Award.

James Liu Memorial Award​

Application due date: 28th February 2025 

 

The James Liu Memorial Award is endowed in memory of Professor James Liu. The Award is made possible through the generous funding of College of Healthcare Sciences, James Cook University, Australia, and School of Psychology, Massey University, New Zealand.

 

We warmly invite young researchers to apply for the James Liu Memorial Award, a tribute to the incredible legacy of Professor James Liu. Through this award, we aim to recognize your achievements, amplify your impact, and uphold James’ dedication to mentoring and empowering emerging leaders. Join us in celebrating his legacy by contributing your voice to the global dialogue on these vital issues.

Eligibility Criteria

The award will be open to:

  • Members of AASP; AND

  • PhD candidates of ASEAN origins currently enrolled in accredited institutions in ASEAN countries or other regions OR researchers working in ASEAN countries who have completed their PhDs within the last five years; AND

  • Applicants whose research focuses on culture in psychology and/or wellbeing

 

Award Details

  • Number of Awards: One award will be presented bi-annually at the AASP bi-annual conference.

  • Award Amount: The award will include a monetary prize of AUD $1,500 and a certificate of recognition.

  • Selection Process: The selection committee will consist of one representative each from James Cook University, Massey University and an ASEAN university. The committee will evaluate applications based on the significance and impact of their contribution to research into culture and/or wellbeing in psychology.
